History

TEENS, Inc. was founded in February 1997 in Nederland, Colorado. TEENS, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that developed as an outgrowth of the Town of Nederland, Youth Services programs (NYS); the agency that created the original Nederland Teen Center in 1984. Through a gradual process starting in 1997, NYS transferred fiscal and programmatic responsibilities of the Teen Center to TEENS, Inc. In 1999 TEENS, Inc. assumed the responsibilities of administering all of the programs and funding of the Teen Center.

At the inception of TEENS, Inc. in 1997, we began a capital campaign to build a Youth and Family Center. We are proud that in three years, we raised over $1,000,000, built our new facility, and on January 2, 2000 we opened to the public. This 6,800 square foot facility, which houses the Nederland Teen Center, also offers a variety of programs for youth of all ages and their families.

The Youth & Family Center is a place for kids of all ages. Our daytime participants enjoy classes such as Kindermusik and Gymnastics. The Gym is available for playgroups, home-school groups, or individual drop-ins. In the summer we offer Summer Camp, Sports Camps and host programs such as British Soccer. In addition, we host the Peak Soccer league in the Fall.

Our after school programming is targeted at teens, and the entire facility is free for youth ages 11-19. Teen Participants can socialize with friends, do homework, take advantage of the computer lab, play pool or foosball or become active in one or more of our structured programs such as Roundtable or Youth Employment. All this and more in a safe, drug and alcohol free space with supportive and caring adult supervision.
