Chinook West is a program of TEENS, Inc. contracted by Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) to provide students an academic and social/emotional alternative to traditional practices.
Chinook West began in 2002 and has served over 80 students.
Classes average less than 7 students.
Chinook West students meet BVSD’s graduation requirements.
Chinook West students graduate with a BVSD diploma.
Chinook West generally follows BVSD’s school calendar.
Students must earn at least a 70% to earn credit.
Each student works with an advisor to make progress towards educational and life goals.
Parent / student / teacher conferences are scheduled regularly to keep all informed of student progress.
Chinook West works on a 7 to 8 week block schedule.
One week intensives happen throughout the year and focus on current relevant topics to teens. Examples include the Conference on World Affairs, politics, diversity and community service.
Over 90% of students who attend Chinook West complete their education.
Nearly 70% of students who have graduated over the last two years are currently in college. Many have received full or partial scholarships.
After one year of school at Chinook West, students report that they are less likely to drop out of high school and more likely to continue their education after graduation.
